In this context, the conversation has moved from \u201cwhy\u201d circularity matters to \u201chow\u201d it can be implemented at scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>The conversation has moved from \u201cwhy\u201d circularity matters to \u201chow\u201d it can be implemented at scale, the report suggests<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:25px\">For now, the adoption of circular business models is, according to the authors, \u201cuneven,\u201d and only 20% of companies have fully functional circular supply chains. To address this, the report provides a roadmap to help companies move from ambition to action and prioritize, design, and scale circular supply chains\u2014one of the main challenges of industrial transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:25px\">According to the report, <strong>the main obstacles<\/strong> companies face are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:25px\">&#8211; <strong>Operations:<\/strong> low product returns, varying quality, reverse logistics complexities, and seasonal demand fluctuations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:25px\"><strong>&#8211; Customers:<\/strong> unclear demand for refurbished products, quality concerns, and entrenched purchasing habits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:25px\"><strong>&#8211; Infrastructure and data:<\/strong> limited collection systems, disconnected IT systems, and poor tracking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:25px\"><strong>&#8211; Regulations:<\/strong> inconsistent rules on waste transportation, warranty requirements, and restrictive international frameworks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:25px\"><strong>&#8211; Organization:<\/strong> skills shortages, resistance to change, fear of competing with own products, and difficulty splitting costs and profits with partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:25px\">The authors emphasize that \u201cprioritizing well is critical to success\u201d and that no company can tackle circularity alone: an ecosystem is needed to ensure materials, know-how, technology, and markets; moreover, each participant in this ecosystem must be able to capture part of the value created by circularity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Three key principles for building circular supply chains:<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"font-size:25px\"><strong>&#8211; Prioritize with discipline:<\/strong> focus initial efforts on the products, customer segments, geographies, and circular value propositions with the highest potential.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:25px\"><strong>&#8211; Design to scale:<\/strong> strengthen operational capabilities, decide what to internalize and what to outsource, and configure supply chains that combine existing and new assets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:25px\">&#8211; <strong>Enable and influence:<\/strong> leverage regulations, finance, technology, and culture, and involve stakeholders from the start to shape markets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:25px\">According to the report, circular supply chains will redefine value creation over the next decade and beyond.
