The Spanish production sector produces almost 5 million tonnes of pork per year, exports more than 40% of all production and has a positive trade balance of around 4.5 billion euros.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 41px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 25px;\"><strong>The size of this production sector, and the geographical concentration of farms, means that the pig sector will have to address various environmental challenges<\/strong> in order to align itself with the &#8220;farm to table&#8221; strategy of the European Green Pact,<strong> ith the aim of making food systems fair, healthy and environmentally friendly.<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 41px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 25px;\">The R&amp;D&amp;I project that we are developing with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uab.cat\/web\/departamento-de-ciencia-animal-y-de-los-alimentos-1345750244233.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of Animal and Food Science of the Autonomous University of Barcelona<\/a> seeks <strong>to identify potential strategies to reduce the environmental impact of pig companies, while preserving their economic competitiveness.<\/strong> The focus of the study is to align the future competitiveness of the pig industry with the development of rural areas and the emerging need to address the environmental sustainability of livestock production.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 41px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 25px;\">The objectives of the project include <strong>providing environmental indicators using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)<\/strong> methodology to be used in the decision phase to understand the integrated management of the pig sector and its value chain.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 41px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 25px;\">The generation of environmental indicators through the application of LCAs with national data on farm emissions according to different health statuses as well as different treatment technologies will be one of the main contributions of the in\u00e8dit metrics team to the project.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 111px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr
