Client
Faro Barcelona is a company specialised in the design and manufacture of lighting and ceiling fans. It is headquartered in Castellbisbal (Barcelona), operates in more than 140 countries and has showrooms in Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Paris and Buenos Aires.
Challenge
To quantify and assess the environmental impact of four Faro Barcelona product references, and to verify one of these references through the PEP Ecopassport platform, with the aim of advancing environmental transparency and preparing for future sector requirements.
PEP Ecopassport is an international programme that verifies Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for electrical and lighting products, ensuring reliable, comparable and market-recognised data.
What was done?
Using the èdit environmental quantification tool, the environmental impact of four products was calculated by applying the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology in accordance with ISO 14040 and the Product Category Rules for lighting products.
The assessment considered all stages of the life cycle —from raw material extraction to end of life— and used the impact method defined by Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) programmes, based on the Ecoinvent v3.9 database.
Results
> 40
Environmental impact indicators specified by the EPD were obtained, including the carbon footprint, for the following four analysed product references: CLAP, STUDIO, VIA EVO and PUNT. These impacts were broken down by life cycle stage: materials, transport, industrial processes, distribution, installation, use, repair or replacement, and end of life.

One of the EPDs generated was successfully verified through the PEP Ecopassport platform.
Conclusions
Thanks to this analysis, Faro Barcelona now has robust, evidence-based environmental information to understand how impacts are distributed across its products. This knowledge is key to making informed decisions on suppliers, materials and manufacturing processes, as well as to communicating environmental impacts in a clear and reliable way.
In addition, the PEP Ecopassport verification of one of Faro Barcelona’s products strengthens the company’s competitiveness in an increasingly demanding, sustainability-oriented market.
