Client
SEAT & CUPRA is a Spanish car manufacturer founded in 1950 and currently part of the German Volkswagen Group.
It produces more than 500,000 vehicles per year —most of them at its Martorell plant— and exports around 80% of its production to five continents.
Challenge
To create an environmental assessment tool to guide decision-making on the use of materials, by comparing environmental indicators and considering their entire life cycle.
What was done?
– In the first phase, we identified the motivation, objectives and expectations related to the tool’s design, as well as the needs of the team.
– In the second phase, we conceptualised, designed and developed the environmental assessment tool, which was later tested in a pilot phase with key suppliers and departments.
Results
1
A tool that supports the Product Environmental, Design, Material Technology and Sustainability Strategy teams at SEAT & CUPRA in making conscious, sustainability-driven decisions.
It considers environmental criteria throughout the entire life cycle of products —from raw material extraction to end of life.
It enables the comparison of materials and suppliers, helping prioritise options based on sustainability criteria aligned with the company’s vision.
Conclusions
Thanks to this tool, SEAT & CUPRA can now analyse internal design proposals more efficiently —coordinating, sharing and prioritising ideas, concepts and data among key departments.
The company can apply measurable qualitative criteria to assess and select materials and suppliers, ensuring that decisions are aligned with the environmental pillars of its sustainability strategy.
