New B Corp Standards: greater ambition in climate action and circularity

Starting in 2026, companies seeking B Corp certification will need to meet several ESG (environmental, social, and governance) impact requirements. The new standards include two additional focus areas: “Climate Action” and “Circularity and Environmental Management.” The first requires reducing greenhouse gas emissions and committing to limiting global warming in line with the Paris Agreement. The second involves assessing overall environmental impact and adopting circular practices in production and operations.

These requirements apply to companies of all sizes, with stricter obligations for larger enterprises. SMEs will need to adopt concrete measures to reduce emissions, develop climate action plans to limit warming to 1.5 °C, and set science-based targets. Regarding circularity, they must assess environmental impacts, integrate circular design principles, reduce the use of virgin materials, and promote reuse and recycling, always ensuring transparency and collaboration across the value chain.

These new requirements represent a qualitative leap in sustainability management and align with international frameworks such as GRI, ESRS, and the Science Based Targets initiative.
