Heura Foods is a brand of plant-based meat products which, through technological innovations, has created a full range of 100% plant-based meat providing the culinary experience of meat from animals.
In order to decide which packaging solution to use for its products, the company needed objective and quantitative environmental information.
Carrying out a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) (ISO 14040) comparative of two packaging solutions to support the decision-making process.
What was done?
A comparative evaluation of the carbon footprint and other indicators was performed with a life-cycle vision of a cardboard tray (87% recycled) with plastic coating and another recycled PET tray with a plastic retractable lid.
Geographic scenarios analysed.
Environmental indicators taken into account.
Packaging solution recommendation.
The study concludes that the recycled PET tray with the retractable plastic lid presents significant environmental improvements compared with the cardboard tray. Based on this comparison, Heura foods decided to take a further step toward sustainability and replace its packaging for the new proposal, which is available in all supermarkets.
